Voice Lab: The African Phoneme API

Finally, Text-to-Speech That Speaks Africa

Every day, millions of South Africans interact with voice technology that cannot pronounce their names. Their languages. Their heritage. Standard text-to-speech engines stumble over click consonants, mangle isiXhosa greetings, and reduce rich linguistic traditions to robotic gibberish.

Voice Lab changes everything.

Built by HAIBO PHANDA, the African Phoneme API is the first technology purpose-built to make AI speak African languages correctly. We do not approximate. We do not guess. We deliver authentic pronunciation using real click consonant recordings and intelligent phoneme transformation.

Google Translate Says "Kosa". Other TTS Engines Say "Kaphela". We Say Click.

Hear The Problem

Type "Xhosa" into Google Translate. Press the speaker button. You will hear "Kosa".

Ask ElevenLabs to say "Qaphela, inja iyaluma" (Be careful, the dog bites). You will hear "Kaphela".

No clicks. No effort. 25 million speakers ignored.

  • No training data

Billions of hours of English audio exist. For isiXhosa, almost nothing. Most models have never pay rudimentary attention to "click" sounds.

  • Wrong sounds

English has 44 phonemes. IsiXhosa has over 60, including 15 click consonants that do not exist in any European language.

  • No commercial incentive

African languages do not drive as much ad revenue compared to other more native English-spekaing markets. Ergo, less invest.
